Why?
When trying to program a completely random captcha image for work, we soon realized that it sometimes shows bad words. We didn't want that, so we Googled for a list of all possible bad words to block but couldn't find one. (yes I know we could have just made the 2nd letter an X, Z or Q but that wouldn't be random then would it?). Anyway, we didn't find a list so we spent almost an entire workday shouting obscenities over cubicles and writing a list. It was quite fun, but inefficient. This is our attempt to prevent others from having the same fun. It started as a simple, accessible, searcheble list; the translator was just for fun.
You're missing some words, jerk.
Found a word that we're missing? Great! Let us know about it. Use our New Word Submission Form and help us grow our list. We know it's hard to keep up with all the bad words out there, and save for Pirate Mike, none of us are sailors. Thanks.
Why wasn't my submisison accepted?
We love submissions! Keep them coming. Unfortunately, we don't have the time to spell check or correct any submissions. To increase the chance of your submission getting accepted, please follow these guidelines:
Can I use your database in my application?
Yes, please do, that's why we created it! We do ask that you follow some simple rules though. Please give us credit in any code that you use it in. Also, while you can use it, we ask that you don't re-sell it or scrape it to create a competing site. While we don't own copyrights to each individual word, we do own the copyright of the entire list. You're more than welcome to use it to filter words out of your own website or application. In fact, we have some APIs that will make your job much easier. If you should need to store the databsae locally for some reason, please contact us, we can work something out.
Where's the API?
The API is currently open on a limited person basis. It currently supports 4 operations: List dirty words, Censor dirty words, Replace dirty words, and Define Dirty words. If you're interested in testing it for us, please contact Ryan Jones.
Where's the reverse translator?
We can build it, we have the technology... we just choose not to. People are mean enough already, we don't want to add to that.
I have a question, comment or suggestion.
We're always looking for ways to improve our service, and we've got many new features planned for the near future. If you have a way to improve the site, please let us know. You can contact Ryan Jones
